Labor Academy SA is about making membership meaningful. This is what LASA say about themselves:
Labor Academy is a national initiative designed to add value to the member experience so that you can do more than phone calling, letterboxing and polling day duties.
The aim is to develop programs which educate and empower members. In South Australia, the focus is on sub-branch members.
The State committee members are all volunteers, not Party Officials. We have been working together since November 2018.
Senator Marielle Smith is our Ambassador. LASA is complementary to other party interest groups.
We have staged two events for members. A panel event called “What do I say when?” was staged in January 2019 to help members have answers to difficult questions in the lead-up to the Federal Election.
In January 2020, we held a Consultation Forum for members to share their ideas for the Good Sub-Branch Handbook we are writing for members.

Some background to Labor Academy
The National Labor Academy was a major recommendation of the Faulkner/Carr/Bracks review 2011.
The Labor Academy will bring federal, state and grassroots sections of the Party together with the broader union movement to develop and deliver training programs to empower and grow the Party’s membership base. We will deliver training relating to:
- Party organisation and understanding Party history
- Acquiring specialised skills necessary for Labor staffing and MPs
- Developing local branch management skills
- Understanding and engaging with the policy development process
Labor Academy vision
We believe that the better informed and engaged the Party’s membership is, the stronger the movement is as a whole. The Labor Academy has a vision for a nation-wide, high quality, coordinated curriculum designed to share skills and open opportunities for broader engagement across the movement.
