What personal data we collect and why
We collect name, email address and sometimes phone, from subscribers, contributors and site visitors via contact forms, comments, cookies, and analytics. By default WordPress does not collect any personal data about visitors, and only collects the data shown on the website User Profile screen from registered users. If you register an event on our calendar you may choose to supply some additional information (see details below). All electronic documents containing personal contact details of subscribers will be password protected known only to delegated Open Labor members.
Comments
When site visitors leave comments we collect the data in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture/avatar is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Contact and subscriber forms
Our contact and subscriber forms collect your name and email address only. We do not use the contact form information submitted through them for any commercial marketing purposes. Subscriber forms data is only used with your consent to post out Open Labor news bulletins.
Cookies
A cookie is a file containing an identifier string of letters and numbers sent by a web server to a web browser and stored by the browser. The identifier is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server. We use a number of different cookies, which collect information about browsing behaviour when you access our website via the same computer or device. This includes information about pages viewed and your journey around the website.
We operate an “implied consent” cookie policy which means that we assume you are happy with this usage. If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.
If you have concerns about the cookies we use, you can block them using the cookie management tools in your web browser.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
We do not share your data with any other organisations or individuals. Users or their browsing activities are NOT identified unless a law enforcement agency has a warrant to inspect the internet service provider’s server logs.
Open Labor uses a Word Press Google Analytics plugin to collect data from visitors to our site. The usage data may include your IP address, geographical location, browser type and version, operating system, referral source, length of visit, page views and website navigation paths, as well as information about the timing, frequency and pattern of your service use. We may also process usage data via third party link shortening and tracking services such as Google Link Shortener or Bit.ly to process and track the usage data for analysing the use of the website.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
We also store the personal information provided by subscribers in your user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

All information (data) is retained in the local database indefinitely, unless otherwise deleted. Certain data may be exported or removed upon users’ requests via the existing Exporter or Eraser. Please note, however, that several “edge cases” exist in which we are unable to perfect the gathering and export of all data for your end users. We suggest running a search in your local database, as well as within the WordPress Dashboard, in order to identify all data collected and stored for your specific user requests.
Where we send your data
Should our Events plugin to send data to a third-party service such as Eventbrite, Google Maps, or PayPal, user information may be passed to these external services. These services may be located abroad.
