The Andrews Government has been a strong government, leading Australia in many policy areas, and deserves to be re-elected. Yet. dismal factional behaviour has tarnished its reputation. The recent IBAC findings were damning. A greater non-aligned presence in caucus will help keep the party and MPs focussed on the electorate and not backroom dealings.
John Kennedy made Labor history in 2018 by winning the state seat of Hawthorn for the first time in 66 years, by 330 votes. He also became the only non-aligned ALP member in the Victorian caucus.
Open Labor and the Independents have worked hard to re-establish a stronger non-aligned presence in the ALP. The Hawke and Keating Governments had close to 10 non-aligned MPs in the federal caucus. In the Victorian Parliament, former Premier John Cain was non-aligned, as was John Thwaites, Deputy Premier in the Bracks Government.
John Kennedy has been a great local member, securing funding Hawthorn public schools have desperately needed for many years. Work on new sporting facilities and green spaces are underway. Much needed social housing is now being built at Bills Street. And under the Andrews Government, record investments are being made in fighting climate change, mental health, public transport and other key areas.
We are writing to ask you to donate to John’s campaign to keep Hawthorn in Labor hands, with a non-aligned member in caucus. In the recent federal election Hawthorn voted for progressive change and the Andrews Government is delivering those outcomes at a state level.
Your donation will help us to keep John in Hawthorn and Labor in power.
Please check donation terms and conditions in the link above and note that any donation of $1080 or above must be disclosed to the VEC within 21 days of the donation.
The Victorian state election is on 26 November 2022.
Thank you for your support and please share this link with like-minded contacts in your network.

As a long term Labor voter, there is no way I would contribute to the continuation of John Kennedy as a non-aligned Labor MP.
