Eric Dearricott writes that Friday’s Victorian Labor Members Update conveyed two important news items:
- Branch meetings will resume formally soon. Information will be sent out by State Office in the coming week.
- New Branch Consultative Committee – Expressions of Interest sought.
The purpose of this 7 member committee will be to advise the Interim Governance Committee on how best to transition Victorian local branches to one branch per state seat and also to help the IGC to work through such issues as new branch executives, branch assets, campaign and fundraising practices and branch meeting protocols to accommodate the changes. The committee will last approximately a year. Expressions of interest close March 19.
Several independent/non-aligned members have encouraged me to nominate – I am inclined to do so, but am interested in your feedback on this matter.
National Conference Delegates
The National Executive has written to the 2018 National Conference Delegates and Proxies and advised them that (presumably because of the difficulties caused by the pandemic) they will the delegates to this year’s online Conference to be held on March 30 & 31.
Jamie Button and I were Vic independent/non-aligned delegates and Linda Condon a proxy to the 2018 Conference. Each of us will attend the 2021 Conference. On Friday afternoon the link to the draft Conference papers was sent to us but there hasn’t yet been sufficient time to digest them.
It would be great to have an in person (but failing that Zoom) independent/non-aligned meeting to discuss the key Conference issues say in two to three weeks time -what do you think?
